Family
English: Capillary Wing-moss.
Region: Scotland
Habitat: on exposed sandstone, limestone or igneous rocks; on hillsides and in river gorges; on boulders on loch margins; uncommon on mature trees with base-rich bark like Fraxinus excelsior.
BotanyPterigynandrum looks like a miniature version of Pterogonium gracile, thanks to its down-curved branches. Colonies are often brown below, with a golden branch tip, but some patches are entirely green.
Stem: branches less than 1 mm wide.
Leaves: 0.75 mm long, bluntly pointed; have short, single or double nerves, not reaching above halfway to the tip.
Capsules: erect, cylindrical; rare in summer.
