TaxonomyThe PPG1 classification places Pteridales and the identical Pteridineae are plavced in the leptosporangiate ferns, also named Polypodiales. Related to Pteridales are Dennstaeadtiaceae and a monophyletic clade around Lindsaeaceae, with monogeneric families Saccolomataceae, Cystodiaceaea and Lonchitidaceae.
Plant theoryIn the Plant theory Pteridales is made the only Order in Pterididae. Lindsaeaceae is included with the small families Saccolomataceae, Cystodiaceae and Lonchitidaceae, and is placed in Subphase 1 of Pteridales.
Dennstaedtiaceae is placed in Subphase 7.
Pteridaceae is split in five subfamilies and placed in Subphase 2 to Subphase 5.
