Botany: 25 genera; 2500 species; tree, shrub; temperate, tropical; aromatic, sweet, spicy, kerosine like, etheric to offensive; leaves 3 veined, alternate, spiral, entire!!; flowers in panicles, 3 merous, ovary superior, 1 carpel; anthers presenting pollen on opening valves, embrypo large with fleshy cotyledons; fruit a drupe, lacxking endosperm, with a cupule!.
Content: essential oils, aromatic terpenoids, tannins, alkaloids, benzyl-isoquinoline, aporphine.
