Habitat: dry; on quartzite outcrops and flats
BotanyHerb, subshrub; succulent; robust; clump-forming subshrub; 10 cm tall, 30 cm diameter.
Leaves: pale grey-gree; crimped margins; lightly keeled; faintly spotted.
Flowers: solitary; carmine to coppery petals; centers may be magenta, rarely pure golden; anthers pale yellow; open during the day, closed at night; blooming between August and September.
Fruit: 10-locular; cylindrical.
