many, fine, reddish brown to reddish orange, zigzag, forming a dense ball, up to 2–3 metres round; flowers tiny, in clusters of two to four, pale, greenish to white or pinkish white; sepals grow, translucent around the black seed, open later like another flower; fruit dark, three-angled nut.
Use: ornamental, propagated by cuttings and seed.
