Lunularia cruciata
English: Crescent-cup Liverwort.
German: Mondbechermoos.
Habitat: often near human habitation; in damp, shady places; gardens and glasshouses; at the base of damp walls; occasionally on lane banks, shady soil, on silty boulders.

Growth form: thalloid
Liverwort; forming large, dichotomously branching thalli up to 12 mm wide; surface is shiny, faintly lined, pale green, dotted with tiny, though relatively conspicuous air pores; with crescent-shaped receptacles which contain green, disc-like gemmae; crescent-shaped pockets, in which brood bodies are located; spreads very well asexually; thalli can become yellowish, the margins inroll, and the reticulations almost disappear when dry.
Capsules: very rare; borne on a distinctive, cross-like, stalked female receptacle.
