Region: Central Asia, Siberia.
BotanyHerb; perennial; about 40 cm tall.
Root: slender, often branched rhizome.
Stem: more-or-less upright or decumbent.
Leaves: alternate; usually lobed; petiole short, five-sided; with two distinct wings; ochreas are 3 to 20 mm long, form membranous tubes that partly or fully wrap around the stem.
Inflorescence: panicle of a few racemes or a single raceme.
Flowers: tepals usually 5, greenish-white; stamens 8; bisexual or the gynoecium poorly developed.
Fruits: achenes.
Seeds: thick outer layer, exotesta; very thin inner layer, endotesta.
