5.12.1 Cadmium sulphuratum, Case 1A 10 year old girl is always coughing. Usually it is only a little dry cough, but at the end of spring it tends to get deeper and she starts coughing up white lumps of mucus like bread crumbs. This has been going on for three years and it is worse when she is at school.
She has frequent colds and sniffs every five minutes. This comes and goes, but it is worse at home and when she visits other people. She sometimes has a stomach ache after swimming. During the first five years of her life she had a fever at least twice a month with diarrhoea, vomiting and coughing, < between 5 and 9 pm. From the age of 5 onwards she had a high fever for one day every year.
She does very well at school. She is a very emotional type of girl, who can be extremely happy, or extremely sad. Her emotions come out in a violent rush and then it is all over again. She likes to do well in everything, she has to be good and she has to be fast. She is afraid of being different, of missing the boat and therefore losing the affection of her family and friends. She is always focused on others, loves being with other people. She also likes to be independent, she played the recorder when she was very little and now has started playing the flute. She is always keen to do something different, she gets bored with things quite quickly.
Her birth was 6 weeks premature and she needed extra oxygen for a while. Her mother suffered from toxemia and had a craving for salt, she was also very tired during the whole pregnancy. Her father was a vicar who had been made redundant just before the birth. He couldn’t handle the pressure of the job and wasn’t able to perform his duties adequately. He got depressed, started drinking and stayed in bed most of the day. Her mother tried her best to get him out of his depression, to be kind to him and cheer him up, but he did not even notice her efforts, which made her feel very powerless. At first she thought it would all be different once their child was born, but this did not turn out to be the case. He stayed depressed until one day he fell in love with another woman. Her mother was very angry and left him. She was angry with the other woman because she did manage to get him out of his depressed state.

Cadmium sulphuricum she has a headache for three days. After another week she has increased mucus discharge from her nose. One month later the barking cough has gone, all that is left is the little dry cough from time to time. She is more cheerful and less irritable when tired. For the first time in her life she is having happy dreams instead of horrible dreams about witches or the death of her mother and father.
CaseA 30 year old woman has asthma. She has a relationship [
Sulphur] with a Turkish man, but it isn’t going very well. He is already married and has several children, but he says he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. When they are on holiday in Turkey together everything is fine, but when she is back home on her own the troubles start again. He hardly ever writes or phones, it is always she who has to keep the communication going. She finds it difficult to talk about her problems, she can’t stand up to him [powerless,
Cadmium]. When she was little she wanted to go to ballet [
Silver series], but this was strictly forbidden by her Dutch reformed family [exaggerated,
