Botany: annual herb; stems very thin, erect, to 30 cm in maximum height, branches littler, dark green to reddish;leaves occasional along the stem, heart-shaped to rounded, with a toothed edge; flowers occasional along the stem, with a base of toothed or spiny leaflike sepals a few mm long; corolla is a cylindrical tube, 3 to 5 mm long, blue or lavender, with darker veining, lighter throat, spreading into triangular lobes at the mouth.
