Genus: 3 species.
Region: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.
Habitat: upland rain forest, especially on slopes.
Use: fruit is much liked, raw, pleasant, sweet flavour with a mealy texture.
Botany
Shrubs or trees; evergreen; up to 20 metres tall.
Flowers: three-lobed calyx, separated or almost united; petals are large and covered it silky hairs; outer row of sterile stamens and fertile inner stamens.
Leaves: alternate; smooth margins.
Fruit: round, globose; smooth; ± 5 cm in diameter; formed from multiple fused carpels; pulpy flesh.
