Remedy code: 3-633.2.6.14
A 45-year-old woman is chronically fatigued. Five years ago, she experienced mononucleosis (Pfeiffer), from which she hasn't recovered. She is so tired, it physically hurts, and she feels almost nauseous. It limits her in her daily routine; she cannot do what she would like to. Whenever she tries, she becomes ill, often with swollen glands and a sore throat. Blood tests are negative. She works and only manages her obligations; afterward, she is exhausted. She used to do fun activities, but not anymore: 'I just go through the motions.'
Despite all these limitations, she is very tired in the evenings. She has slept poorly since childhood, often unable to fall asleep until late after 3-4 hours of lying down, waking frequently, and never feeling rested. Last year, she used lorazepam for a while; melatonin doesn't help. She doesn't dream. 'I go to bed exhausted, mainly physically.'
She works as a district nurse, and concentrating requires a lot of energy. She had always wanted to be a schoolteacher or nurse. Through an internship in-home care, she realized: 'This is it.' She does it for the people: they are themselves, not overwhelmed by doctors, really taking the time for them, offering real help. She has various contacts with people: how can we solve this together, how can we make it as comfortable as possible? 'I am alone, that wasn't the plan; my partner died last year. It made me a bit sick, sad, and angry' (remarkably calm as she says this, with resignation). The fatigue began five years ago when everything was going well. That winter, she had been very tired for months, but thought 'Oh, it's just winter' and didn't pay much attention to it. She lost weight and lost her appetite. Only in the summer did she experience severe headaches, swollen glands, throat complaints, and poor liver function. She had a high fever for several months, up to 39 degrees Celsius. Until last year, she was at home a lot, sleeping a lot, and feeling listless.
She has regular headaches for weeks, occipital right, so painful she curls up, stabbing. When the glands swell, it's in the neck, occipital, and armpits. Fatigue feels like you've completely exhausted your body as if you've been running non-stop, as if you've crossed a limit. Also nauseous when tired, if it lasts too long, there's a slight fever, and swollen glands, for a few hours.
She has a notably soft voice, and an open expression, is open in her emotions, and shows interest without crossing her boundaries. When she enters, she talks about the old building, the atmosphere, and how nice it is. She sits remarkably calmly and stably, and has soft, shiny eyes, even when talking about her friend's death. It's a combination of remarkable stability and waiting. There's a hint of nostalgia, dissociation from the moment but not from what's happening or her past.
Her other complaint is her bowels; her stools are often too thin, and quick cramps in the bowels, always have been. Tongue (reflecting the mucous membranes): The color is good, clean, and noticeable, the outer edge has a slightly different texture, a few millimeters, it's smoother and lower than the rest, slightly lighter in color. Indicates exhaustion of the lymphatic system, as named in Traditional Chinese Medecine. B12 is always low. Menstruation: she's been on the pill for 20 years; without it, she has a lot of cramps, even more bowel cramps.
'I had a very nice childhood, I come from a warm family. I had many friends and did a lot of sports. Great contact, always. Both parents worked. I don't have children myself, it didn't work out, a shame, but it is what it is. My partner already had children (so it wasn't a big deal for him, she means, she is satisfied with how it is). We had a close relationship for six years.' 'I would like to have more energy: to go out for a day, to a party, to go out with people. I even dread it now, which takes away the fun.' Hobbies: walking the dog, and enjoying nature. Reading takes too much energy; her interest is very broad, all kinds of books, also in her field. Vacation: she likes to visit sights, go to a terrace, into nature.
AnalysisHer gentle demeanor suggests
Campanulaceae. Fatigue and perseverance fit with
Fabidae, sensitivity to atmosphere and gentle approach fit with
Malvidae, fever, and infection fit with
Asterales, and the independence characterizing her 'care' fits with
Lanthanides.
Interest in culture and sensitivity to atmosphere fits with Classe 5, mononucleosis fatigue is common in
Fabaceae,
Phase 5. A possible characteristic is: wanting to enjoy. Her work involves caring, but especially finding solutions together independently: reminiscent of
Lanthanides, the fever Class 6. Against this choice is the experience that
Asteraceae can be more present and then 'fade out' as needed; she is not so forcefully present, more someone who drifts on a calmly undulating sea: no ground under her feet, but also no panic.
However, none of this can be related to the complaint; there seems to be no cause. But calculated, that period was the beginning of her relationship. She doesn't tell more about it, but it emphasizes a close contact with Class 3, also the theme of a partner of Phase or
Subphase 6.
Childhood: everything was good, warm, with many friends, fun things, fitting for Class 3.
Being cautious, waiting, and subordinate to the situation, fits with
Phase 2.
Scanning the rubric 'pain occipital': possibilities with the above: Avena, Gnaphalium, Lachnantes, Lecitine, Myrica. A bell rings when paying attention to the stages of these medicines.
The exhaustion, continuing to do everything without any reserve, listless:
Stage 14. The mask, deflated, powerless as keywords.
Liliidae characteristics: Working with people: she likes it because of the nice contacts known in the
Silicium serie, solving problems together, as well the importance of the family in the past, and her wish to go out with friends; all Classe 6 33,
Phase 4 are recognizable here.
The calm, straight posture, the open contact, and the accommodating without vulnerability she had were previously seen in an Avena indication (it concerned a case of headache after a collision, 'whiplash', the pain decreased by 80% within a few days). Recognizing the 'image' makes the choice easy.
Class 6 33: friends, family,
Phase 2: adaptation, acquiescence, to people and situations, the cramps.
Subphase 6: partner, giving, fatigue, bowels.
St 14 is how she is now, how she deals with fatigue but also with traumas.
Prescription:
Avena sativa C200
Follow-upAfter taking it, she had a bit of a sore throat, headache, and runny nose for a few days, as if a cold was coming. Slightly swollen glands. Then it started improving, gradually ('unnoticed,' she calls it). After 10 days, she wasn't as intensely tired anymore, no more pain or nausea, now I'm 'just tired.' At the end of the day, no longer sick from fatigue, and no longer wake up feeling sick. Sleep is also better, still lying awake for 2-3 hours, but after that she sleeps ‘like a log’, periods of 3-4 hours, which is very long for her. Last week, I dreamt a bit, and upon waking I remember, confused and jumbled.
Her bowels are calmer, with no cramps for these three weeks, stools are still thin.
Memories, and thoughts these weeks: my dog was sick, had to put him to sleep yesterday, I've been busy with that a lot. It's strange, it was intense for a moment, but it's okay now. The slight dissociation from emotions of what's happening still seems to be there. So a good improvement, she was happy and energy was going better during monthes.
Onosmodium virginiamnum 3-665.3.5.05Years later, she came back once more; things were going fairly well, sleeping was good, fatigue was under control, less severe, and recovery was faster. She has since entered into a new relationship, which highlights that she can do even less than she wants to. The bowels are still an issue; she feels them most of the day, and her stools are often too thin, with lots of cramps and pain, sometimes with urgency. Everything else is getting better, but not the bowels. When fatigued, she experiences more discomfort, and when she's not feeling good, she has more trouble. Work is going well, the glands and throat are still sensitive when fatigued. Bowels have always been easily irritated and 'active' her whole life, and since mononucleosis, it has never been right. In high school, she had colic pains. Tongue: the edge is red.
Analysis 2In the rubric 'cramp as diarrhea,' looking for appropriate options: Lobelia, but more so Onosmodium, placed on 3-665.35.05 seems to fit very well, because we see the themes independent and shadow (
Lanthanides theme, overlap with Class 6), atmosphere and culture as a theme (Class 5), sensitivity, adaptability, cautiousness (
Phase 3), the inclination to enjoy, to go out, cramps (
Subphase 5), and the doubt in attitude and behavior (
Stage 5).
Follow u 2 After a single dose of a globule with
Onosmodium virginianum LM6 (this was the only potency available in the practice at that time), she quickly and permanently improved.
After this, her energy is really good, no more exhaustion, occasionally a day a bit less. The bowels are very calm; she hardly notices them anymore. Sleep is good, headache gone, and no more sensitive glands. She sits upright, stable, and no longer feels vulnerable.
Discussionwhat is a good reaction. Onosmodium fits with exhaustion and may have been applicable many years earlier. Avena did a lot; much of the theme matched the story, but the patient and homeopath were too quick to be satisfied; it went well but still not very well. A good reaction is very quick and beyond your expectations based on biological of medical knowledge.
The image. The impressions of her appearance, and the overlap in recognition with the
Campanulales and the
Malvales, indicate that all
Phase 3 families can be considered. The appearance, the aura, and the non-verbal aspects are characteristic of the person and sensitivity, the expression of well-being, the functioning of the vegetative, and therefore useful for a prescription. More than symptoms, the complaint in words, if you can think in themes and name Class, Phase, and Stage.
If you recognize a Subclass, such as kidney
Campanulales, assume that
Phase 3 may be the characteristic. The non-verbal can be indicative of a prescription; there is an analogy that you can learn from experience.
Medicine potency. The bowels were already an issue in her youth and fit her constitution. The fatigue that occurred later could develop on this constitution. Here it becomes clear once again that if the medicine choice is good enough, the potency is of no importance, and repetition is not necessary. Asparagus C200 gave a short improvement in energy, Gymnoclades MK also gave a short improvement, but Onosmodium LM 6 was a real hit.
