A young man of 32 years was diagnosed with eosin oesophagitis. For years, food has regularly stuck in the oesophagus; he then has to vomit to clear it again. Six months back on vacation a piece of meat got stuck, an admission and endoscopy followed. Since then the stomach complaints have been more frequent. Still, there are investigations, they suspect an allergy. A few days before he had an allergic reaction to eating fish, then the throat closed up and he had to keep swallowing, he could drink something. From white fish, the throat swells, but it also occurs at random. The food stays in his throat and presses against his ribs, the whole area feels hard. At the pit of the stomach, he feels a firm pressure to the outside. The symptoms vary from day to day. He is now quickly satiated when eating, the throat thickens quickly, and in the morning he has heartburn and uses omeprazol. While talking, he had strong othorhoea. Otherwise, he is healthy. Sleep is good, when he eats little he does better. He is a programmer, does a lot of sedentary work, his hobby is hiking in the mountains. As a child, he had many ear infections and throat problems, the tonsils were removed, and then the allergy developed. His energy is not good, he needs a lot of sleep, and he will play sports but has to pull through. He likes to be busy, both mentally and physically. If he does too much, he gets tired and has to sleep a lot.
Stress also causes fatigue. Sometimes he wants to prove himself at work, but mostly he lets it go. The complaint has little impact on him he says, but it keeps him psychologically busy.
AnalysisThere are a few clues, first of all, the allergy, then he is very analytical and ordered, and the complaint has little impact on him. We see this a lot with
Lanthanides, a reference to Clade 6. The fatigue is strong, lots of sleeping, he drags on:
Phase 6. When tired, he withdraws, and goes to sleep, appropriate for
Stage 13. Repertory heading: pain, pressing outward listed Valerian, fitting the above parameters. We find the drug pressing outward 'in the stomach', 'abdomen', and 'chest'. The contraction of muscles in the oesophagus fits within the concept of “hysterical reaction” and spasms, both characteristic of Valerian.
Prescription:
Valeriana officinalis C30.
Follow upHalf an hour after taking it, he suffers from a burning throat, the first few days, the oppressive feeling in the ribs is slightly less. Since then he had no more trouble with the oesophagus, swallowing is going well. The pressure feeling at the stomach pit remains for a few weeks, but the area is no longer as large, it is no longer there continuously but only occasionally. One time he had trouble with the throat after a frozen meal, it only lasted a few minutes now. The energy is unchanged. After two months, the stomach and oesophageal complaints are over.
