A 17-year-old boy, tall for his age, walks slightly stooped, always very friendly, a little cautious and hesitant. He comes in for concentration problems; “when I start thinking, I can't stop.” He has no concentration when he wants to study or read. A certain train of thought keeps going, even during exams. For the past six months, he has had an anal fissure, which is painful after a bowel movement. When he is tense, he has a lot of saliva in his mouth and feels nauseous. If he swallows the saliva, he has to vomit. His tongue has a white coating, is pale in color, and the front is light pink. His sleep is restless; when he is about to fall asleep, a song pops into his head that he cannot get rid of. After waking up, he feels 'as if he has run a marathon' and remains tired all day. After exertion, he has mild asthma and has to cough, with a feeling behind the sternum as if it is being squeezed shut. He has a rash on the back of his hand. This has become much less severe in the last year after taking
Melilotus officinalis. He feels depressed, he doesn't feel like going to school, he has no interest in anything, not in going out or seeing friends. This irritates him. He knows the feeling, but now it lasts longer than usual. In response, he shuts himself off from everything. That helps for a few days, but then he becomes very irritable. He dreads the exams, it is so much, 'it will be tough'. He is fed up with it all, at the end of the year. Rathania (
Krameria lappacea) and
Carapichea ipecacuanha do not help him.
AnalysisThis is an analysis based on plant families.
The
Fabaceae theme applies: pleasure versus duty. Having to continue as the only option. Very tired as a concomitant.
Stage 9: anticipation, realization as a theme (coming out of the world of thoughts and not putting anything down in the 'outside world', school, and his friends), not quite falling asleep but ‘almost’, which makes him tired.
The cautious, wait-and-see attitude is an indication of
Phase 3, the stream of thoughts continues unabated,
Phase 5.

Follow-upAfter taking it, he felt positive, and he started talking to himself as if there was a 'positive little person' in his head. He no longer felt tense about the exams, had racing thoughts, and no longer heard a melody. The tightness in his chest is now gone. However, he does have mucus in his airways, which he notices when talking. He feels fit. After his school exams, he is going to study sports.
