5 7 Series: Goals of personalitiesAim Goal Need DesireThe goals of personalities can be divided into 7. They are linked to the 7
Series of the
Periodic system. Each
Series has its own theme, purpose or motive. The goals express themselves in what one should be, what one wants to have, what role one has in life. These roles fit one’s developmental position.
For example, the second
Series stands for the time of childhood and it is about the development of the self and the body. It is the age of the child that needs protection from its parents. The child wants to be held, to feel the touch of parents. The sense that fits this is touch. A child wants to hold everything or touch it with its mouth. Touch is the most important sense for a child. Touch is the sense of the skin, in the immediate vicinity of the body. One can identify oneself with the body. Then there is fear of losing the body, fear of illness and death, fear of losing protection and money to defend the body.
EvolutionThe
Periodic system can be seen as an expression of evolution. It can be the evolution in the big picture, in the history of the development of life. Evolution can be seen in the life course of humans. The elements of the
Carbon series can be seen in childhood. In puberty the main theme becomes the interaction with other people, friendship and personal relationships like partnership and marriage. This is the theme of the
Silicium series.
One can more or less equate the atomic number of the elements with the age of the person. Not in the sense of the exact number, but in the sense of the themes that emerge at a certain age. For instance, in the teenage years one is dealing with relationships, which is the main theme of the
Silicium series.
RegionEvolution can also be seen as the expansion of consciousness. As a child the consciousness is very much oriented towards the body, later in the teenage years towards the relationships in the neighbourhood. In the
Iron series it is about the borders of the village. The last
Series, the
Uranium series, is about consciousness of the whole universe. Parallel to the
Series are the sense organs, ranging from senses of proximity such as touch and taste to sight and intuition.
The table “Element
Theory,
Series” on the next page shows the general qualities of the
Series.
Rosa’s case continuedThe personality of the woman in Chapter 1 aims to preserve the good name of her family and her family business. ‘
Family’ is the theme of the
Silicium series. The position as leader of the business fits the Silver or
Gold series. Her artistic qualities favour the
Silver series over the
Gold series. The same applies to her position as the middle manager of the company, her husband being the director.
Psychology of Maslow and other systemsThe described divisions of the
Series of the
Periodic system show great and striking similarities with classifications in psychology. Maslow, for instance, has classified the levels of human development as a hierarchy of needs. A clear hierarchy can be seen, ranging from very simple, material to more demanding and psychological. They coincide with the age of humans.
Maslow describes goals as needs:Need 1: material, physiological needs: food, drinks, warmth, breath. Need 2: security need for a health, an income, home and family.
Need 3: love, of being loved and belonging somewhere.
Need 4: to be respected by doing a good job.
Need 5: self-fulfilment.
The correlation with the themes of the
Series is striking. For instance the theme for security is similar to that of the
Carbon series. There is a need for safety, security protection of parents.
Only 2
Series are not represented: the
Silver series and
Uranium series. In his update of the needs in 1970, Maslow added two levels. And these 2 correlate very well with the 2 missing
Series. This is presented in the table below “
Series and Maslow”.
In the Appendix 3, chapter "
Series and Psychology" one can find an extended comparisons with many psychological systems like Maslow.
