Stem: erect; red or red-streaked, green; leafy; axils have a red streak.
Leaves: green; oval to triangular; toothed and broad; smooth on the upper surface , powdery on the undersides; white mealy texture.
Inflorescences: powdery clusters of spherical buds.
Flowers: buds do not open into typical flower blossoms; sepals remain covering the ovary.
Use: seeds, shoots, stalks, leaves as food, greens.
