English: Corkwood Butterfly plant.

Region: Africa, Madagascar; east Asia, southern China, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indo-China, Australia, Solomon Islands.
Habitat: humid forests, lowland wet evergreen forest, swamps, on hills; elevations up to 1,500 metres; older plants grow well in an open position, younger plants are more tolerant of shade and dislike too much sun; tolerant of wet soils and standing water; sensitive to drought when young.

Botany
Evergreen tree; 15 metres to 50 metres tall.
Stem: straight, cylindrical; 25 - 70 cm in diameter, occasionally with small buttresses and or aerial roots.
Leaves: dotted black.
Fruit: small; ellipsoid to roundish; globose, fleshy, pink to red berry; 7 mm in diameter, with several seeds; pleasant, sweet-acid flavour.
