Bixaceae: 3 genera, 25 species; Amoreuxia, Bixa, Cochlospermum, Diegodendron.
Botany: include trees, herbs and shrubs; bisexual; flower five sepals; red, orange or yellow latex.
In the Apg3 classification Bixaceae is a subgroup with Cistaceae in Malvales. Cochlospermaceae are closely related to Bixaceae. Under the Cronquist system, it was traditionally placed in the order Violales. It is the first diverging line in the Cistales.
In the Plant theory Bixaceae is placed in Subphase 1 in the Cistales.
They have an impulsive quality, going together with a strong drive to get or keep a higher position in society. Even when they have a high social status they often feel like an outsider, a newcomer.
They like to enjoy life, in basic qualities like food, drink and sex but also in intellectual aspects, art and science.
Red, vivid, fiery.
