Case by Martin Jakob.
Woman, 84 year old, cough. She has a chronic, loud barking cough for 30 years. Problems with walking due to pain in her lower left leg, originally caused by a comminuted fracture from a fall 10 years ago. This was stabilised with metal plates and screws and after this operation she had recurrent inflammation in the area where the metal plates and screws were located. Her leg sometimes just gives way and the orthopedist diagnosed osteoarthritis in the affected leg.
Her childhood was marked by war, which she is now afraid of again due to the media coverage. Her father died at the front in Russia when she was two years old. She therefore grew up without a father. Her mother was strict with her children, there were no excuses with her, things had to happen the way she wanted them. Her mother had to get herself and the children through this difficult time without her partner. She found the war and post-war years terrible, the bombs, the fear, nothing good to eat, etc. She married a man 10 years her senior and had a symbiotic relationship with him until his death 30 years ago. She feels unappreciated by their son and complains about these and other life circumstances. She is afraid of poverty and of being alone. She is very strict with herself, trains regularly at the sports club and does not want to give in to herself under any circumstances. Move, move, move is her motto. She has worked hard all her life in her own business, building and running it alone with her husband.
