Case by Jan Scholten.
Girl, seven years old, autism. She started having problems after the BMR vaccination at the age of two. She made less contact and less eye contact. Her speech did not develop further. She no longer played much and walked on tiptoe. She often bumped into objects. She often had outbursts with hysterical screaming. She became sleepless. She was diagnosed with autism and Pandas at the age of two.
She also has digestive problems with cramps in her stomach. She has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and fungal infections.
Her mother had five miscarriages before she became pregnant with her. The pregnancy came about with difficulty and eventually with in vitro fertilisation. In the third month of the pregnancy, her mother experienced bleeding. The delivery was by Caesarean section. Her head was flattened on one side. She was breast fed only briefly because she had no sucking reflex.
She has frequent upper respiratory tract infections with coughing and nasal running. Sometimes she also has a high fever. She does not feel well then. It usually lasts for seven days. She is allergic to pollen and grass and gets dry red eyes from them. She has tics.
Being with other children is still difficult. She gets on better with adults. Her motor development, walking and crawling, were all on time, but speech development was slow. She gets therapy for this at the day care centre. She is cheerful and playful and interested in surroundings and the world. But she is easily over-stimulated.
She is hypersensitive to noise and she covers her ears when there is a lot of noise.
She is very sensitive to the emotions of others, like from her mother. She likes drawing and painting, music. She likes watching fire and thunderstorms.
Her parents divorced before her birth because her father did not want children. Her father visits regularly for a few weeks and then she has good contact with him.
She is fascinated by water, and likes to be in it. She can have obsessive behaviour for example with turning the light on and off, or with her clothes. She can be very angry for example when her mother tells her what to do or having speech therapy exercises.
