Man, 73, gastritis. He has pain in his stomach region. He has reflux, worse from red wine and rich deserts. It got better after stopping with those foods. He has pain in his abdomen every 2 to 3 days.
He has stiff knees after walking for a long time. It is worse in the morning on waking. He is frequently knocking his elbows. He feels his balance is not good, with a tendency to fall to the sides. He also has ear and eye problems, and impotence.
He has a good marriage. He has worries about his children and grandchildren. Especially one son is giving worries, as he has severe ulcerative colitis.
There is a history that his father and his parents were threatened in the Kristall-nacht in Germany. His father was pushed by his parents to emigrate to South Africa, when he was 16. He had to start from scratch there and build his own company. The parents of his father had to stay in Germany as they did not have permission to leave Germany. After the war it turned out that they had been killed in the concentration camps.
His father never told anything about what had happened. It was an unspoken trauma in the family. When he became sick his wife pressed him to start talking about his past. Later he and his father visited the house where he lived in Germany. It was a very emotional experience.
