Case by Jan Scholten.
Woman, 60 years old, confusion. She feels confused after a visit by a friend. She had a moment when she lost her mind and couldn't remember anything. It felt helpless and lost, with the total lack of orientation. She felt like she was losing her mind and felt totally isolated. She wondered what was actually going on and could not remember anything. She felt like she had to explain everything every minute. She felt like she had lost all control and was completely at the mercy of the situation.
The situation with her friend was difficult because she had to be very careful not to hurt her friend. Her friend was very self-centred, strict and reproachful towards her. It was actually too much for her, but she could not abandon her friend either.
This was very similar to the situation with her parents. They had grown apart and separated and were trying to set her up against the other parent. She was the mediator conveying messages.
She is a type who can empathise with others and is very adaptive. She is afraid of rejecting the other and thereby being abandoned herself.
