Case by Magdalena Jakubaszek.
Girl 10 years old, autism. After 1 dose of the MMR vaccination, she regressed to autism and lost her speech. She sat behind a window, with no contact with the environment. She did not look at people. She is purring and is in constant motion. She wakes up between 1 to 4 am and then at 6 am she falls back to sleep. At night she is howling loud and playing. Mum reports that at some point she has stopped sleeping. She just has a nap of 15 minutes at noon.
She hits herself hard on the head with a toy many times, repeatedly hits herself hard on the face. She speaks to the toy not unintelligibly, echolalia. She calls out "This is that", and quietly hums some sounds. She makes various noises all the time, some correct words emerge from these.
She speaks to interactive toys, arranges them in rows, but does not answer mum’s questions. She places interactive toys to her ear, records herself according to mum on her phone and then listens and watches herself. She takes a patch of hair into her mouth and bites it.
She expects to be scratched, stroked and petted by mum. She purrs softly when mum strokes her legs. Her mother says that she comes many times a day to be touched for a moment. She gets up, claps her hands loudly, walks over to the wall and bangs her head against it. She turns to a toy, and shouts something to it. She runs back and forth across the room, goes into the wardrobe. She runs from toy to toy and all the time, communicating something to the world in her own way. She plays with her toys and then makes sounds like her silent singing. She only becomes quiet when her mother strokes her. She speaks in her own language to the toys, like a conversation. In her voice you can hear her trying to replicate emotions, she lowers and raises the sounds.
She has a strong auto-aggression when the toys do not make voices, she changes them to cartoons on the TV or songs. She is capable of recreating a whole sentence from cartoons.
She does not drink from a glass, she can only drink from a spoon. She only drinks water by herself from the shower or from the garden hose. She has high food selectivity, she often sneaks food in the kitchen, including sweets, and unhealthy snacks. She drinks a lot of fruit juice.
Her mother says her daughter starts to do things but lacks persistence. She starts new games eagerly but doesn't seem to know what is expected of her. I asked her for crayons and she eagerly took them out, looked at them, drew a line and then went to another game shouting “No no no no no”. This is how she reacts during various activities and therapies.
AnalysisFern: autism; speech retardation.
Carbon series: speech retardation strong.
Phase 3: very cuddly.
Stage 5: starting to do things but lacks persistence.
Hemionitis palmata: 3-442.13.05
I advised mum to give
Hemionitis palmata 12C in water solution, during the consultation. The girl stops running around the room, walks over to the wall to bang her head against it, you can see her making a swing towards the wall but not hitting it. She picks up a toy to hit her head and does not complete this action. She stops clapping, squeaking, she does not hit her head, she does not hit her face (She used to do this very strongly before). She has slowed down with walking and sounds seem slower.
Prescription:
Hemionitis palmata 12C, 2 times a day, reduced to 1 dose a day if there will be amelioration in her behaviour.
Follow upMessage from her mother after a few days: “I said to her today ‘.... will you help me with dinner’ and she quickly came over with a smile. And she was happy to cut the vegetables. She also made pancake batter for her dad, and I could see she was enjoying it. When she started to mess around and my husband pointed out to her, she didn't get angry or hit him on the head or jump around. She accepted.”
After a few weeks she is definitely calmer. She sleeps through the whole night. She became calm during the day and often comes to give me kisses, which she never did before. Her mother says: “On Monday I gave one dose of the remedy at night because she was squeaking. On Tuesday I saw no need for another dose, as there was no squealing, jumping, clapping or any aggression or screaming. Thursday I gave the remedy only once and the clapping went away. Overall it is better than it was. The jumping on the knees is gone, there is still some clapping and squeaking. She sleeps all night from 21-22 as she falls asleep. When I call her she comes straight away the first time”.
One month later she started to communicate with logic sentences, a big improvement in a speech.
Previously, several other homeopathic remedies gave no results.
