Case by Jan Scholten.
Woman, 50 years old, depressive. She never discussed problems with her mother. Her mother was hard and strict at home, but the children were free in the nature and woods around the house. Her mother was sexually abused by her father. She learned this family secret later in life from an aunt. Her grandfather was a pastor. He had many affairs and was also sexually intrusive to his grandchildren. When that happened to her, she felt confused, discouraged, and shocked. More in general, she felt not loved, which made her life force becoming diminished. She could only relax at home when her mother was away. She had the feeling there was no place for her at home as a third child, so she had the tendency to flee from home. She wanted to be seen, but felt not seen. She always felt responsible for her mother and the family, was always trying to find out how she could ameliorate their life. As a small baby, she was often left alone by her mother, who couldn't stand crying babies. In the daytime she was left in the bedroom, and at night in the living room, far away from her mother. Later in life, her mother told her that she had done everything wrong in her life. That made her sad and she started retiring and saying nothing anymore to her mother. In family constellations the feeling of being left alone came back, which gave her a powerless feeling, unable to do anything about it. Her mother used to beat her children regularly with a wooden spoon. But she experienced the emotional beatings as much worse. As a child she realised that fighting wouldn't help her, so she started doing good for her parents so that it would go well with them.
Her mother was very closed and never talked about the old traumas. She behaved normally, keeping up appearances.
She had a good contact with her father. He had lost his father when he was ten in the World War 2. It was a very difficult time with a lot of poverty, and he had to work hard for the family.
She had a very good contact with her sister when they were young and they shared a room.
She could discuss everything with her sister. But in puberty, her sister got closer to her mother and had the tendency to betray her. Later in life she persuaded her parents to give her the whole inheritance and leave her as a younger sister and her brother out of it. When she was ten the family moved, which was a big problem for her as she lost all her friends. That was also the period that she started to become ambitious and have good school marks with the goal to be seen by her mother. It was not successful as her sister was always in between her and her mother.
When she was sixteen she went away from home to boarding school. There she was bothered by homesickness for a long time. At nineteen she started working which gave a lot of stress and resulted in anorexia.
At school she had to achieve very much, in order to gain the appreciation of her parents.
Flushes of heat.
She has burning stomach ache.
Sadness and restlessness.
Fear: alone in the dark.
Sad, heavy, headache from homesickness.
Feeling trapped, blocked, stagnated, imprisoned.
Desire for order, everything in the right place, stiff, rigid.
Feeling: pessimistic, cannot think positive anymore.
Dream: fallen into a deep dark well full of rats and snakes.
AnalysisMany remedies were prescribed for this patient and many of them gave beneficial results. But there was no real, full healing. This kind of situation has turned out to be typical of old, hidden traumas, for instance as a child.
In this case she is abused and neglected by her mother. And this is an old issue, she was an unwanted child. This is a strong indication for ferns,
Pteridophyta, 3-400.00.00. Despite the trauma she is very capable, having a job and her own income. This indicates
Iron series, 3-440.00.00. It is confirmed by the fact that her mother follows the norms of the community.
The problem arises in her relationship with her mother, which can indicate
Carbon series or
Silicon series. Her sister plays an important role in this conflict, which indicates more the
Silicon series leading to
Aspleniidae, 3-443.00.00.
It looks like
Phase 6. But she still feels very responsible for her mother and the rest of the family. That is more
Phase 5:
Thelypteridaceae, 3-443.15.00.
There is a strong theme of loss,
Stage 15.
Often there are also transgenerational issues. In this case there is the sexual abuse of her mother by her grandfather. And there is the story of her father, who had lost his father at a young age. He had to work hard, indicating
Phase 5.
