Habitat: light shade to full sun; 20-45 °C in summer, hardy to -5 °C with isolation; needs only water during the growth period, aversion constant humidity; alkaline.
Use: ornamental, very showy.
Herb; perennial, tuberous, procumbent; 30 to 80 cm.
Stem: elongated; underground; massive storage organ of more than 1 m length, thick as a human forearm.
Flowers: yellowish with brownish-purple ornamentation; 5 cm.
