Botany: shrub or small tree species; commonly known as horizontal scrub due to the habit of bending down horizontally under its own weight, the fallen stem sends vertical branches up its length and so on, forming an impenetrable horizontal scrub; commonly less than 8 m high, sometimes 12 m tall in deep soiled, sheltered gullies; leaves opposite, unifoliolate, bright green, narrow elliptical to ovate in shape, ± 1 cm wide, ± 5 cm long, end with a blunt point, coarsely serrated margins; flower solitary or occasional of two to three together, in the leaf axils, ± 6 mm long; sepals 4, ovate; petals 4, lanceolate, green to yellow, and ± 2 mm long; flowering in November to December; fruit fleshy, green, 13-14 mm long and ± 4 mm wide with a solitary seed; can regenerate after low intensity fires by sprouting form protected buds at the base of stems.
