English: Tree aeonium; Tree houseleek; Irish rose.
Region: western Canary Islands,Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Gran Canaria; neophytes on Iberian Peninsula, Moroccan coast, Mediterranean.
Habitat: subtropical; prefers sunny or slightly shaded places; weathered volcanic soil.
BotanySubshrub; succulent; 2 metres.
Stem: ± upright or ascending, smooth, not net-like patterned; 1 to 3 cm diameter.
Leaves: obovate to oblate lanceolate, pointed toward its apex, wedge-shaped at the base; 2 to 6 cm long, 0.5 to 2 cm wide, 1 to 3 mm thick; in flattened rosettes, 10 to 25 cm; at the end of the stem axes; pressed tightly together when young; green, usually purple-colored, glossy leaf surface is almost bare; margin is set with curved eyelashes.
Inflorescence: conical to ovate; large pyramidal panicles; 10 to 25 cm long, 10 to 15 cm diameter.
Flowers: pedicle 2 to 12 mm long, slightly fluffy; sepals slightly fluff-haired, with a pointed top, wedge-shaped base, smooth, shiny green, red or purple; petals are yellow, narrow oblong to lanceolate, pointed, 5 to 7 mm long, 1.5 to 2 mm wide; stamens are bare; bright yellow; blooming in spring.
