Brachythecium rutabulum
Year 2022, Issue 32, Article 11CaseAuthor: Britta Dähnrich
Man, 60 yearsHe comes to me in April 2018.He is a 60-year-old man, gaunt appearance, thin face, high forehead. For many years he has been in treatment with me from time to time, at great intervals. His main problem now is exhaustion, which has increased after a flu like infection. He is a parcel driver and works part-time in a spiritually oriented institution. There he is responsible for the music. He leads a choir and gives piano lessons.
He has a very eventful resume, with many different places of residence. He thinks a lot about whether the money could be enough when he retires.
It is difficult for him to structure himself and to organise his time sensibly when he has time off. If he then fails to structure himself, he feels feelings of emptiness and senselessness. He is afraid of falling into a hole and tries to control his fear through certain rituals. He then has the feeling of being in a fog.
In practice he speaks in a very long-winded and unstructured way, you have to bring him back to the subject again and again.
When he lived alone, it was difficult for him to furnish his apartment, to arrange a folder, it is like another world.
His girlfriend prints out emails for him, everything that has to do with the internet she does for him, he can't cope with it.
He lives in a relationship with a woman he finds difficult. She is often aggressive towards him. It takes a long time before he sets a limit. She has a history of sexual abuse, she has never had an orgasm. He perceives her as very strong intellectual, he perceives himself as weak.
"I must assert my survival and protect my existence."
"I want to surround myself with a paradise and I don't consent to physical limitation and sobriety".
"The unstructured chaos in my life is always a theme"
He is very sensitive to cell phone transmitters, then he has the feeling that he can't sleep at all.
He has had tinnitus for several months after cutting wood.
He reports the following about his childhood:
"My father had a violent temper," he said, "it was the uncontrolled gaze of a soldier who has known killing"; he was the youngest of three children, never had the courage to go into conflict with his father.
He was always "afraid of the deadly look" (when he was about 5 years old)
When he was 4 or 5 years old, he wanted to contact father, "he didn't have time, he looked at me with his murderous eyes, I didn't feel anything after that. It was like a death sentence, this is the end".
"Once I brought home a bad grade, it was the feeling I would not survive".
His mother was schizophrenic.
He experienced her as cold, manic and dominant.
He often felt completely alone as a child. When his sister had a ruptured appendix, he was left on a main street. His memory is that he waited there for a long time.
When he was 4 years old he had scarlet fever, was in hospital, had no visitors for 3.5. weeks, saw only his father looking through a window.
Many years ago he was afraid of falling into a hole: "everything is diffuse then, the things I do are arbitrary". "It's about to become mad, I fall into a hole from which I can't get out. I have been close to it before". "Then I wanted to flee from the mobile phone transmitter, sleep close to the earth on moss, walk barefoot through the snow".
From earlier consultations:
Thinking and concentrating is difficult; he had a reading disability, read slowly. He was playful for a long time, he didn't feel loved, he was afraid of the community with people.
In his relationship with women he describes himself: "I adapt totally, I am 100 times too weak to make mine next to her (the girlfriend). I'm afraid that she will leave me if I do mine".
"I don't have a point of view of my own, I'm not at home in myself".
"I bit through a lot when I was a teenager."
"I'm slow; I don't stand up properly in life"Remedies I used to give him: Sepia, Hydrogenium, Calcium silicatum.AnalysisWhat a moss speaks:
Chaos, fog, unstructured.
Tells very long-winded, not on the subject.
Slowly, not right in life.
No position of its own.
Not at home in himself; many different places of residence.
Thinking and concentrating is difficult.
Was forgotten at the main road (is overlooked); it is also noticeable that he does not know exactly how it was (like in the fog), it must have been quite threatening for him to be forgotten at a main road.
Money is the issue (is the money enough?).
His profession (parcel driver) does not correspond to his actual abilities and mental level.
I must assert my survival and protect my existence.
Wants to sleep on moss. What moss?Murderous gaze of the father, beatings, violence, which he experiences in the gaze of the father, schizophrenic mother, it comes close to madness (phase 7)
Musician, leads the choir, gives piano lessons (Phase 5).
The combination of phase 7 and 5, the slowness and playfulness that I know from the exam, lead me to Brachythecium rutabulum, according to Jan Scholten it has the middle code 3- 333.57.13.
In two other cases of Brachythecium rutabulum (they are described in "In the fairyland of mosses", 2020, p. 255 and p. 257), I could also clearly see phase 5 and 7 in Brachythecium rutabulum.
Further topics from the tests were recognizable for me:
Sense of Threat.
An unpredictable, impulsive mother.
Sudden unpredictable violence.
Uncertainty.Therapy and follow up:I start him on Adenium obesum C200, but without success.
Then Brachythecium rutabulum C 200, first administration in May 2018, then in June 2018 and again in August 2018.
The exhaustion is slowly and steadily getting better, he can stay up longer in the evening than usual.
After the first dose he was able to organize his birthday, which was new for him. In the relationship with his partner he feels more of a togetherness than an opposition.
On days off he is only very rarely afraid of falling into a hole. The inner conflict is less and less. He can stay at work.
The tinnitus has subsided.
On a trip to Assisi he was able to create a meditative unity without any problems. He was spontaneously asked to create this unity and could get involved. When he reports about it, he appears very lively and authentic.
During the consultation it is noticeable that he does not speak in a long-winded and unstructured way.
In December 2018 he has the feeling that he can now continue without accompaniment.
In September 2019 I meet him by chance at an event. I notice that he is well and clearly structured in his conversation. He radiates a new security.Brachythecium rutabulum was the first moss to be tested. It therefore holds a key position, as the testing and first clinical cases of Brachythecium rutabulum (see "In the fairyland of mosses", Jan Scholten, 2020, p.255 ff) gave a first impression what the mosses could stand for.
The atmosphere in the group of the Brachythecium rutabulum test was characterized by the atmosphere of a "moss society" (a term we later coined in our Rottenburg test group): cheerfulness, lightness, simplicity, childishness.
But also impenetrability, struggling through, isolation, biting on granite came up as themes. In Martin Jakob's sensory test, a sense of threat and unpredictability were the main themes. The main topics of the Brachythecium rutabulum tests (trituration test and sensory test) are listed below:The main topics of Brachythecium rutabulum from two tests (Britta Dähnrich and Martin Jakob):
Changed sense of time (time passes too quickly or too slowly)
Childish, doesn't want to take responsibility, naive, little child
Sense of threat.
An unpredictable, impulsive mother.
Love, tenderness, suddenly hate and violence.
Uncertainty.
Tense to make it right for others, not for yourself.
Limited mind, thinking is difficult, understands nothing, like mentally retarded.
Slowness.
Closed, not revealing anything, unapproachable.
Resistances (overcome), unruly.
Fighting through, struggling to survive, asserting oneself unconditionally.
Simple, simple, at the bottom.
Vulnerable, soft.
No connection, alone in the group.
No more thoughts, nothing is felt; sensation blocked.
Tired, absolutely tired, just want to sleep.
Saving the earth, deep knowledge, wise core.LiteratureIn the fairyland of mosses", Jan Scholten 2020, page 247.
