Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a major role in memory, self-confidence, emotional balance, sexual function, appetite, and overall mood. Its action is highly polar in nature, with marked extremes often present.
A significant proportion of serotonin is produced in the gut, highlighting the close relationship between serotonin imbalance and gastrointestinal disorders. Therefore, gut pathology must often be considered alongside mental and emotional symptoms.
Clinical Picture
A persistent sense of depression and a constant low feeling are common. Individuals may feel uncared for, misunderstood, and emotionally unsupported. This remedy can be especially useful in cases of depression and anxiety, particularly following the use of SSRIs.
Sexual function may show extremes, with either very high or very low libido. Appetite is also polarized, either excessive or markedly reduced making this remedy important to consider in thyroid-related conditions.
Pain syndromes, especially fibromyalgia, are prominent and are often closely linked to psychological and emotional stress. Other key features include insomnia and states of exhaustion or burnout.
