2.6.12 Stage 12: DysprosiumLabor 9: The Girdle of Hippolyte.
The girdle was owned by Hippolyte, queen of the Amazons. On arrival Heracles and Hippolyte respected each other and she gave him the girdle and they made love. Hera was furious seeing this, went to the Amazons in disguise and told them that Heracles had killed Hippolyte. The Amazons were furious and went with an army to Heracles' ship to seek revenge. When Heracles saw them coming he suspected that Hippolyte had betrayed him, started fighting her and the Amazons and killed them.
Only later he came to the conclusion that Hera could have been behind all this.
The labor seems to be easy. But this only until Hera brings in the theme of betrayal. Betrayal is a key theme of
Stage 12: This theme is even more emphasized as there wasn't any betrayal. This reminds one of tricks of espionage and counterespionage, secret service and information distortion which are aspects of
Stage 12.
