Mycology
Fungus; earthball just breaks up to release the spores; much firmer flesh and a dark gleba (interior) much earlier in development than puffballs; peridium, or outer wall, is thick, firm, ochre yellow, with irregular warts; may be parasitized by Pseudoboletus parasiticus.
