Abdomen: spleen enlarged and damaged; liver damage.
Skin: sores, open ulcers.
Types
1. Cutaneous leishmaniasis: open sore, which heals in a few months to a year and half, leaving an unpleasant-looking scar; diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis produces widespread skin lesions which resemble leprosy.
2. Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis: skin and mucosal ulcers, of the nose and mouth.
Other symptoms: fever, damage to the spleen and liver, and anemia; enlarged spleen.
3. Visceral leishmaniasis, also named kala-azar or black fever, is generally fatal if untreated.
