Case by Alexander Erlach.
Woman; 85 years old.Mrs P is 83 years old and has been living in a residential care group for people with dementia for 4 years (MRI findings in 2014: vascular encephalopathy). Her husband died 6 years ago and she has 4 adult children who visit her regularly. She is a former home economics teacher and used to practise yoga and esotericism.
Problems: she doesn't like to integrate herself into the group, is often on her own, observes from a distance, doesn't like to submit and doesn't want to be controlled by others, which makes it difficult for the nursing staff to deal with her. When she realises that things are no longer working as they used to in her head, she gets angry, bangs on the table, gets loud, then wants to be alone in her room, which can last up to several days. Or she cries and says she wants to die. She feels patronised and restricted, complains: "Why won't you let me?". She is mistrustful, has rejected all doctors and psychologists so far, medication has to be given to her in crushed form and in secret. She has difficulty finding words, she hardly talks about herself spontaneously. Sometimes she sees insects in the room or people (that others don't see), then gets scared, wants to get out of the room, she easily has ideas of persecution.
She loves music, likes to take part in music therapy sessions, likes to listen to angel stories, has a lot of toys in her room.
