Cautious handling autonomy and self-worth
The main problem can be seen as how to combine autonomy and self-worth and they handle this cautiously. They want to stay autonomous. They fear losing self-worth if they can’t be independent. They avoid situations where they aren't in control anymore. This can lead to a limited kind of life, necessary to maintain their feeling of self-worth.
Avoiding the inner world
They fear the inner world. The inner powers are seen as too strong to handle. These have to be handled with care so they don’t overwhelm him. They fear that the inner powers will destroy their fragile personality. As a consequence they stay away from their talents, like intuition and clairvoyance.
Father is too fearful to gain independence
Their father can be a person who wants to be independent, but is too anxious to seize hold of it. He can alternate between situations where he behaves like an autonomous person and one where he's more dependent, like a child.
Alternating between self-control and self-worth
They can alternate strongly between trying to be powerful and giving up. Autonomy is seen as unrealistic. They ask themselves how they really can be autonomous, how they can retain their self-worth. They seek ways to stay independent and free. But often they feel these ways are inadequate and give up their plans to start new ones. But it’s as if they themselves are never good enough, which can make them feel worth very little.
