Trees; up to 30 m tall.
Stem: 60 cm diameter; bark smooth or rough, dark brown or slightly purple; wood is of medium or somewhat coarse texture, heavy, compact and durable.
Leaves: broadly elliptic-ovate, coriaceous; ± 20 cm long, ± 10 cm wide; apex acuminate; base rounded.
Inflorescence: terminal or axillary panicle, ± 8 cm long.
Flowers: ovate lanceolate petals ± 0.4 mm long.
Fruit: smooth; ovoid-oblong; drupe; 5 to 10 cm long, ± 5 cm wide; yellowish green, orange, dark purple or black when mature; edible, with strange taste.
