Botany: non parasitic herb; aromatic odour, slightly bitter taste.
Leaves: opposite or the upper alternate, ovate, acute, serrate, glandular hairy.
Inflorescence: 1-2 flowered, axillary.
Flowers: bell-shaped, 5 lobes, triangular glandular-hairy; corolla yellow, bilabiate, upperlip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, rounded; flowering September to December.
Stamens: 4, didynamous, included, anthers with separate stalked cells.
Ovary: 2-celled, style long, stigma lobed.
Fruit: capsule many seeded.
