About The Sensation Method and The Synergy in Homoeopathy
Since Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s time, many eminent homoeopaths have contributed and expanded the basic principles of homoeopathy with outstanding results. One such contribution to the advancement of homoeopathy is the Sensation Method.

Originated by Dr. Rajan Sankaran and his colleagues, the Sensation Method is a path-breaking methodology that has revolutionized the practice of homoeopathy. Today, thousands of homoeopaths are successfully practicing this cutting-edge technique across the world.
The Sensation Method is based on the premise that deep inside each individual is a specific and distinct energy that shapes who we are – our likes and dislikes, the way we think, act and feel, and finally our illnesses and diseases. This energy pattern is called ‘the other song’.
‘the other song’ defines our state of being. It determines our perception and response to the world and forms an essential part of our individuality. ‘the other song’ manifests as a core inner sensation which is specific to each individual. It matches an element from one of the three kingdoms in nature – plant, animal or mineral. Our personalities, life patterns, underlying factors behind stress, physical problems and symptoms are all expressions of this core inner sensation.
The Sensation Method has also evolved a systematic approach of understanding homoeopathic remedies. Remedies are understood at a much deeper level, and they are not just as a random collection of symptoms. Each remedy is understood in totality from the point of view of Kingdoms, Sub-kingdoms, Miasm classification, and Levels of Experience. This enables a systematic, effective diagnosis and treatment of the core inner sensation within each patient.
With further advancements by Dr. Sankaran and his team, the Sensation Method has now reached a pinnacle where it has further simplified the art and practice of homoeopathy – this concept is coined as ‘The Synergy in Homoeopathy’.
‘Synergy ’denotes the coming together of two or more things to create an effect that is much greater than the sum of the two.

The utilization of traditional homoeopathic tools such as materia medica and the repertory (left-brain concepts) in combination with more modern homeopathic approaches such as sensation and kingdom understandings (right-brain concepts) generates the most success in clinical practice.

The Synergy Approach in Homoeopathy

The diagram below can illustrate the Synergy Approach:

The peak of the triangle is the Genius. Genius here means the prevailing spirit or distinctive character of something – this applies to the patient and also to the remedy. As coined by Dr. C.M. Boger. In the foreword to Boger’s Synoptic Key he states –“The strain which runs through every pathogenetic symptom complex has been called the genius of the drug.” The first few lines about each remedy in Boger’s Synoptic Key usually give a very good idea of the remedy’s genius. This general quality of the patient and of the remedy has also been called, by various authors in homoeopathy, the essence, keynote, soul, red line, or the grand generals.
The sides of the triangle, Symptoms and System, complement each other, and when they are used together the best results ensue. Symptoms include the use of rubrics, structured repertorization, keynotes, provings, characteristics, and clinical symptoms. The System includes kingdom, sensation and miasm.
When utilizing the idea of “Synergy”, all three sides of the triangle (Genius, Symptom and System) must be included in prescription, and ultimately each one will reach the same conclusion and remedy that matches the patient.
This is a system that is unique – its design can be taught, practiced, and replicated successfully by students and practitioners. This method has brought together both the old and the new approaches in homoeopathy – it has established a universal platform where all approaches in homoeopathy are welcomed and used to aid in the patient’s recovery.
