6.12.3 Mercurius iodatus flavus, Case 1A 40 year old woman caught a cold a few months ago and suddenly became seriously ill for the first time in her life. Her cheeks and throat were swollen, she had ulcers in her throat with yellow and grey exudates. Painful swallowing and much thirst. She wanted to drink lemonade and refreshing things. Occasionally she coughed up yellow and grey bits of tissue. She felt: ‘they have got me now’. She was hoarse and talking was too tiring.
She got tonsillitis and was treated with antibiotics. But she still has a raw sore throat, pressure in the throat, < talking, feeling of lump in throat, especially in the throat pit. She wanted to be left alone, and not be bothered with any emotions within the family. She was tired and moody and inclined to snarl at her family. She also had a pain in her shoulder.
She had had two difficult pregnancies, where the dilation did not take place and the children had to be extracted by vacuum suction. She nearly bled to death from a retained placenta and fibroids. The second she had a caesarean to prevent all this from happening again and then she was sterilised to be on the safe side.
She is head of a filling station on the motorway. She is very strict with security, since her husband was robbed 5 years ago. Her husband had a nervous breakdown three years after that when he heard about a colleague who had been shot dead in a similar sort of robbery. She puts a lot of time into her work, at least 60 hours a week, the business is like a family and ‘the show must go on’. She runs a tight schedule and she adheres to it very strictly. When she is home she is there 200% for the children. They can always reach her when they need her.
The is cheerful and positive, always sees the positive side of things. She is warm hearted and lively. She is sensitive to criticism and either suppresses her anger or lets it out in a violent outburst. She kicked the midwife once when she was unfriendly to her. She tackles difficult clients all by herself, doesn’t hesitate to personally kick them out of the shop.
She has strict principles: ‘You should always help and respect other people’, ‘You should never hurt others by stealing from them’. She can be strict because she feels you have to live as an upright and honest human being. You should also be kind to people who have fallen by the wayside in this society.
She has little appetite, but easily puts on weight. Her teeth leave imprints in her tongue.
GeneralsWeather: -> cold.
Perspiration: can’t.
Desires: snacks, cake, sausage, meat, butter (3), bread (2) with butter and cheese.
Aversion: vegetables.
AnalysisShe is director of a filling station so we have to look somewhere in the
Gold series. This is confirmed by her the fact that she works like a man and deals with intruders like a man. The throat infections and the feeling of: ‘They have got me now’ are both Mercurius symptoms. The yellow and grey exudates are typical of Mercurius,
Mercurius cyanatus and
Mercurius iodatus flavus. The
Iodum part has many symptoms that we see in this case: sudden, hoarse, throat pit, ‘show must go on’, cheerful, positive.
The theme of the robbery that happened to her husband fits
Mercurius iodatus flavus: it happened suddenly, their position was being threatened, the thieves run away with the loot.
Mercurius symptoms: strong principles, tight schedules, < criticism, she takes on difficult customers with her own bare hands and kicks them out of her shop, hot fever without sweat, trembling fingers, -> bread, butter, yellow coating, imprints of teeth.
Iodum symptoms: looks after people who don’t fit into society, tight schedules, talkative, active, hoarse, little appetite, overweight, -> cold.
ReactionAfter
Mercurius iodatus flavus 1M she had an aggravation lasting two days with feeling of having caught a cold, dizzy, everything whirling round. Afterwards she felt a lot better, the pressure in her throat and the mucus in the lung were 75% better. The pain in her shoulder and neck, radiating to upper arm and beyond were also better. She felt less tired.
CaseA 15 year old boy has come to ask for advice as he eats too much [
Iodum] and he quarrels with his parents. He always looks for a quarrel after he has eaten food colouring, as in coloured gum balls, but it is really due to a power struggle between him and his parents. They do what they like behind his back [
Stage 12, 13] in spite of their previous agreements and he is not allowed to speak for himself anyway, so he might as well go away [
Stage 17,
Iodum]. He had hydrocephalus [a.o. Mercurius and
Iodum] and had a drain fitted in his head. He is always busy [
Iodum], < heat [Iodum], -> outside [
Iodum], -> bread [
Iodum], < citrusfruit. After
Iodum he gets a right side throat infection [
Mercurius iodatus flavus]. After taking
Mercurius iodatus flavus he soon feels much better. There are less quarrels with his parents and he feels they are more under-standing. No more binging sessions.
