Reduce egotism to save autonomy
Combining autonomy and egotism leads them to withdraw. They have their necessities of life but autonomy is more important. In order to keep their autonomy they give up half of their needs. That will let them be more independent. The highest form of independence is spiritual: seek and give up their desires to attain the Self. They tend to only half give up their desires.
Reduce autonomy to get enough
They can have the feeling that they can’t get enough from life. They fear poverty and that things will be taken away by thieves or by the government. They can have the feeling that they can’t be obstinate, otherwise things really will be taken away. So they have to give up part of their autonomy, which makes them bitter. It also gives them the feeling of being corrupt, of having traded their ideals for money.
Retreat from using and domineering people
They feel used by others but the others are too strong and domineering for them to resist. So they retire, into their inner world, a fantasy world. There they can still be autonomous but they feel it's unfair, an injustice. They feel aggrieved, wronged and indignant. This can make them very bitter and sarcastic.
