Case by Maarten van der Meer
A five-month-old baby, she was born two weeks premature. Due to the poor function of the placenta, labor was induced earlier, through the placement of a balloon. The delivery went well, with strong contractions. The first few weeks went well, but then severe intestinal cramps began every day. They tried everything, including nutrition and osteopathy, to no avail. Breast feeding did not get going enough, she was given goat's milk, mother 'agreed'. That gave temporary improvement but the cramps returned. The stools are good, yellow, and green for the first four months. She is panicky, and that comes just like that. Often 20 minutes after the bottle, it then seems like cramping: she then sits up a bit, and looks around very feral, as if bombs are falling around her. She can cling to her mother. It comes on suddenly and can last for 10 minutes and is daily 4-5 times, after feeding. She does not look different then, but the behavior is abnormal, restless, and panicky. It is the second pregnancy, her first child. Three years back she had an interrupted pregnancy, the relationship was not good, and he was not honest with her about his steroid use, which could be bad for the child she thought. This pregnancy: she got pregnant with a friend, it was unexpected, they both just wanted a casual date. She wanted to hold it, but he was not ready for it yet for his feelings, living in another country. They don't live together yet, otherwise “it puts too much pressure on the relationship. She had to figure everything out on her own but had support from friends. She just moved because of her job. The child is a little impatient and is somewhat extroverted, the mother is introverted. Her parents are separated. Her child's name: she found this one on an oriental site, it is a beautiful name with a meaning. At first, she insisted on another name, only in the last few weeks: no, this one is it.
AnalysisA second child: compare the mother. Both pregnancy and childbirth are useful as characteristics, characteristic of a medicine, think of the experience of both mother and child.
Lanthanides theme (figuring everything out for herself, the mother, alone),
Series 6, presentation, sensitive to atmosphere
Series 5. This points at the
Lamiidae, Gold series5.
Lamiales: she is extroverted, friends, seeking recognition, ambition, and maternal bonding.
Phase 5: Enthusiasm, pressure on relationship,
Phase 1: naive, sudden. Childbirth: pressure building (balloon),
Phase 5, intense contractions
Phase 1.
Stage 10: I can do this, a proud mother (doing it my way, I decide, sticking to an idea or belief). Headings used in the repertory: pain after eating, pain, colic, must be double. These rubrics were looked at in search of a drug that fits the pattern described above.
Lamiales,
Phase 5, and
Phase 1 were clear, the Stage was also in the anamnesis between the lines.
Prescription:
Gratiola officinalis MK.
Follow upThe first week she had diarrhea for some days, but the cramps were immediately less, only occasionally. The panicking is less, mother sees it less often. Parents now see development, she is rolling. Next few months she grows well, solid food is going well now, she has shorter naps, and occasional snot bubbles, skin is sometimes restless. Panicky may still be there on very busy days. The following year the mother breaks off the relationship, and the child continues to do well.
