This is the description of a man of forty, with an open, friendly appearance. He is careful, but very purposeful in his movements and gaze. He radiates a great confidence, this has to do with his deeply rooted faith, and an optimism based on perseverance, hard work, experience and good hope. He is a very hard worker, with his own company where about ten people work, a large family where everything is possible; many visitors, people joining for meals, guests staying over, taking care of relatives, taking people along on vacation for example, caring for lonely and needy people (dd
Oxalicums,
Phase 6).
He is cheerful; despite his activities and capacities he maintains a modest appearance, clearly enjoying all that is possible and happening. He is not tall, a bit of a stocky build, and as director of the company he is modest en boyisch and always walks or cycles to work with a sandwich bag in his bag. His hair colour is reddish-blond, he has a white skin colour with the remnants of many freckles on his face. Besides the busyness of work and family, he is active in the school board, the sports club and a volunteer organisation. There is time for himself for a quarter of an hour after dinner, then he sits surrounded by the children, listening and telling stories, he enjoys it enormously then, but even then keeps reacting very sharply to what happens. He is enormously efficient in dealing with people and with time, can decide quickly, is alert, consistent, and possesses the incredible energy to keep all this up.
Previously he suffered a lot from colitis, this disappeared spectacularly two years earlier after
Neodymium oxydatum. Since then he feels, for the first time in his life, occasional fatigue and suffers from a cough, and recently his belly is rumbling again. Previously he had a lot of bowel complaints before a lecture or a public appearance. That is still very exciting for him, but he always perseveres (
Stage 6), though now he suffers more from the cough beforehand. Much of what he does he sees as a challenge (
Stage 6), also as a task, an assignment. He commits himself enormously to the people around him and the people of the municipality. An idealist, individualist, and in the social sphere a benefactor (
Phase 1). An everybody's friend, but someone with clear judgements. Principles are incredibly important to him, “sticking to principles is the most important thing in life” (
Phase 1, compare the
Kaliums). Taking action is his motto. His face shows 'knowing what is needed'; despite his rational world-view, he comes across as someone who feels where attention is needed, and feels whether something is true. This can be read from his posture and face, as if he constantly assesses by briefly withdrawing into himself, and in a quick and smooth way weighs things up, judging the situation 'gropingly' (
Malvidae,
Series 5). Despite his strict faith he is someone who is absolutely not prejudiced, not in thinking and certainly not in acting. A free spirit.
Lately his energy is not good, which especially worries his wife. He himself knows it, but does not shed a single task, on the contrary. After the extra busyness due to the expansion of the family, he bought a seaworthy boat 'for relaxation', to get away for a bit on the weekends with the children, to the slight despair of his wife. His idea was to gain energy in order to be able to continue and to relieve the busyness at home a little by taking a number of children along. Sailing has always been a passion; previously he sometimes went out to sea: the adventure, the space does him good, the sea could not be wild enough. After a day at sea he would have no trouble for days with the airways, the belly, fatigue or a tense feeling. The last weeks “I drag myself along”, he is tired, sluggish, but does not sleep well. He has a rash on the side of his hands, which is aggravated by oranges. The bowels are irritated again. About his fatigue he says the following: “I want a lot, but when you start on it, then you notice you have too little energy. They keep asking for help, and there is a lot…”. He tells this at ease, slumped down with his feet on a stool. At that moment he gets to talking, steps out of his role as 'the one ultimately responsible for the world in which he lives', and spontaneously tells the following account. With which I received a clear confirmation of the observations made earlier, and, on a silver platter, the story and the earlier definition of
Malvales characteristics, and probably the essence of the remedy.
“When I have tension, I feel it in the belly, it contracts there. For example before a speech. Or other tension, when so to speak you are facing something, or know that a heated discussion is coming. I am not so self-assured, but always do take the responsibility. Some problems really get to me, they make me despondent (
Phase 1 and 6). Lawsuits, unreasonableness, divorce troubles in the family, the death of my parents, those settle in my head. I need the boat, tension and relaxation must be in balance. Principles, that is the most important thing in my life, because of them I can go completely against another opinion. You don't make friends that way, they don't always take it kindly (
Phase 6), the reactions, phew, that can give me an enormous sting. I can then be far too fierce, I say it all unsalted (
Phase 1). Afterwards I come back to it, take back my fierceness, not the content. If at such a moment I cannot express myself, if I wait with it, then it starts to smoulder, sometimes for months, until I can say it. Then I suddenly flare up and say my piece (
Phase 1). You must dare to address each other, I think, just as at home and at work, there I always do it directly; speaking my mind, but in the committees I often simply cannot keep my mouth shut. I start suffering from it if I keep it inside (
Malvales). Sometimes I find that you cannot say it, but that gives a lot of unrest, and sooner or later it flies out. That I have had to learn. Saying things. In our home the custom was that as soon as a discussion arose, it would be said, calm down, don't quarrel, better say nothing (
Malvales). I was always afraid of punishment, afraid of not belonging to the group. I was always 'sounding out' everyone (keeping an eye on, sizing up).
I was obedient, did not dare to do anything wrong, because of punishment. I had antennae to the utmost, still do. Sizing up people, how are they, are they a danger to me. People who are underhanded, I ignore them, avoid them, but inside it does start to fester.”
Analysis Malvales: Feeling outward, sensing the environment. Antennae. Helping people. Keeping quiet. Bowels and lungs: mucous membranes.
Stage 6: Adventurer, challenge, exciting but do it anyway. Being judged.
Mezereum: Water fanatic. Rescuing angel, Jack Buggit (see article
Malvales).
At the time
Daphne mezereum was placed within the
Malvales in a subfamily; analysis was based on determining the family and the stage. I myself placed
Daphne mezereum at
Stage 6; the characteristics of
Stage 16 that are used fit within the thematics of
Phase 6.
Prescription:
Daphne mezereum C200.
Follow upAfter the remedy he is clearer, can 'switch' and think better. He is more accessible to the family, has more calm. The fatigue is less; on days off he no longer needs an afternoon nap, and he has the idea that he sleeps less deeply, as if it is no longer necessary. He undertakes all sorts of things again, plans everything again. He gives lectures throughout the country, it remains exciting for him, but also very enjoyable. It brings a lot of busyness and a lot of responsibility. That boat gave him a lot of relaxation, but his wife raised great objections when he left. Before
Daphne mezereum he simply “had to” go off to the boat; now he does not miss the sailing when he stays home to help his wife. After three months the cough comes back a bit from time to time, during which he has to sweat terribly at night. An occasional little cigar then helps him. The bowels have been good again for years. Four years later: fine, there is always much busyness and worry about and for others.
