Case by Maarten van der Meer
A 9-year-old boy, he is the fourth child of a large family. Striking are the sensitive, even fragile “deer eyes,” cautiously looking but insistent, where the gaze doesn't quite make contact with you but stays right before you to “explore” there. As if looking through a small opening like an old castle window, itself safely protected, with limited vision, but looking intensely. Regularly you can see from the eyes and face, that he has a fantastic idea or fantasy, more than an inside joke. He seems to make very little effort to bring out such an idea or image, to share it, despite a visible yearning. You do see the intention and a conviction, but not the slightest force for it. Perhaps the description “as if the idea ‘dies,’ or the momentum is right out again” fits. Notable are his large and crooked teeth, this has to do with a too-narrow palate. He has his shoulders raised high, and sits with his knees drawn up in front of him, trying to sink into the chair. His complaint is fatigue. Of his own accord, he goes to bed at seven and then sleeps around the clock. Always he has been tired a lot, but since this school year it has been worse. He likes to participate in running games, then he is the slowest. He also does not seem to be able to stand up for himself enough, with games he 'has' to be the ticker, otherwise, he is not allowed to play. During the first school year, he always came home tired, grumbling, and arguing at home. Nevertheless, he does participate in school, he says: “We are not allowed to fight at school anymore, or frolic, that should make me less tired from now on”. During the pregnancy the mother felt that he had “cold chills” in the belly, in the crib he could have the same. The first time the mother was overprotective, at six months he contracted the
Rs virus, after which asthma developed which lasted the entire toddler hood. Still, he is easily out of breath. He had and has many ear problems, often with teething. He would not indicate pain but would cry heavily, and half an hour after that an eardrum would pop, and a lot of “gunk and muck” would come out. He always grew quickly, and his build was 'lanky'. His talking has always been “awkward,” being too soft and not always clearly articulated, possibly related to his narrow palate. At school the teacher understood him poorly, he was sick with stomach aches before a talk because he thought it would take too long, and he was dreading having to talk so much. When he wants to say something at home he asks his mother “Please tell everyone to be quiet, I want to say something”. He is a go-getter. In rollerblading, where he often falls because of his poor motor skills, he keeps trying. Falling down the stairs a lot, and tripping, usually because he is too rushed. With a task like table setting, he is very active and keeps going at a fast pace. In general, he is quiet and helpful. With dressing there is always something crooked, a button fastened wrong, the collar is not right. When you see him sitting down, it is not surprising, he is much preoccupied with himself, viewing the outside world as if from a distance, through that narrow window, and in doing so he often struggles, so to speak, to force his face, his attention, out through that window. At home, he is not fierce, but then again he does not let himself be walked over. He is a slow eater, nothing tastes good. His tongue has brownish batter on the edges, and is slightly “indented. He tells a dream: he is fishing by a ditch that had been dredged. He catches a whale; there were still “blinkers” on it. Arriving home with the fish, it has become a pig. He loves fishing and indeed caught a very large fish once. He still suffers from bed-wetting.
AnalysisThe heading used in this case study: voice, weak. In reviewing the drugs listed here,
Daphne indica stands out from the knowledge of Plant Families (see article Malvaceae). This column served as an “eye-opener,” the theme of the
Malvales can be recognized in the effort to make your voice heard. In this case study, literally. This makes the theme of “voice” clear. Other
Malvales characteristics are the airway complaint from the past, and the adjustment to just be allowed to play along can fall under 'too little loyalty' to oneself. Softness, sensitive, scanning, feeling the world around him, creative thoughts. Shyness and withdrawal are appropriate for the Thymelaceae.
Prescription:
Daphne indica MK
Follow upWithin two weeks he is permanently less tired, he no longer asks if he can go to bed, he grumbles less often and less violently, he is now often very enthusiastic instead of complaining about what was not nice or good, talking has improved: more intelligible and louder, he has to blow his nose less often, and he now eats normally with the rest. Moreover, he is no longer the slowest to run at school, which has significantly improved his social standing. Possibly because of this, there is also less frustration when frolicking and fighting, but that may also be due to the discipline imposed by the teacher. Towards the other children, he can now get angry more easily, if he is hindered for example. Again, he “opens his mouth. The first weeks he is dry at night, then bed-wetting returns regularly, this disappears a year later after
Nitrogenium oxydatum.
