Armillaria ostoyae is a species of plant-pathogenic fungus. It has decurrent gills and is cream-brown. The cap has prominent scales. The stipe has a well-developed ring.
The mycelium invades the sapwood, disseminate over great distances under the bark or between trees as black rhizomorphs, shoestrings.It is possibly the largest living organism by area, covering 9.6 km2, weighing 35,000 tons as the world's most massive living organism.
