Year 2026, Issue 9, Article 8CaseAuthor: Maria Davits
Woman, 45 years old, backache. Her back-complaint around the right sacro-iliac joint she describes as stitching, as if something sharp, a pin-like thing, the pain spreads and retreats again, something like a peristaltic movement; afraid it is a kidney-stone? Around 17.00 it is worse. Respiration is painful, fear of fainting. The doctor gave an injection and Valium but it doesn’t work.
In relation to this main complaint she describes the feeling/sensation: totally stuck, squeezed between two things, felt around waist and chest. I make myself as small as possible, try not to be there.
She is referring to her lesbian relationship with her friend, who keeps turning her down already for more than 10 years. She cannot let go of her, keeps trying to make contact. He experiences the behaviour of her as claiming and has to push her away all the time. He has a daughter of 7 years old and she loves her dearly and wants to spend time with her and play but is always dependent on the permission of the mother.
She experiences a wall, totally misunderstood and utter forsakenness. She once described this as “a merciless anguish – the impossibility to reach a person that does not even know me and that I might never reach before she dies”.
She recalls an incident from her youth: as a child everyday when she went to school her mother had to wave her goodbye; if her mother did not do that long enough she got very sad at school, I could not function and had to go back home to her mother. If I had the feeling again that it was “open” again between me and my mother I could go back to school again.
When she can see or feel the other is vulnerable and has an open heart, then there is contact and everything is fine. She comes from the south of Holland where everybody is very warm, friendly, when she moved to the north this was what she missed most.
Her favorite movie is Desert Hearts, it is about a lesbian relationship and in one part of the movie you can see that one is “breaking” open – this is for her the most emotional part. She cannot cry when she sees it, she feels stuck, it wrings in the chest, it is panicky, almost anxious to death, it chokes the throat. It is the moment of breaking open and getting heart to heart contact: “something I miss in my own relationship with R. I feel it is only a very small step but we make an endless detour, when it would happen I would immediately get into my own shape and everything would be fine”. Follow upAfter the remedy the pain subsided in a few hours – it is only a few weeks ago I gave it so not much follow up yet but my first attempt with “classification” prescribing looks promising.
