Artemisia absinthium

Year 2022, Issue 5, Article 4CaseAuthor: Jonathan Stallick
Case by Jonathan Stallick
A young man of Pakistani heritage came to me due to paranoia. He had been attacked by a gang two years before. He developed paranoid delusions together the feeling his boundaries were aggressed by others. He became violent himself and cut himself from his family. He is smoking 4 joints of weed a day because he couldn't sleep and had terrible nightmares.
His parents had split up. His family felt dysfunctional.
He came across as arrogant. When I took a step back, I realised I felt a bit disrespected, which is basically what he felt but was projecting it outward. He is a very independent young man, likes to make his own decisions, for instance with vaccinations. He expressed a lot of irritation and is jealous of people who seem to have more than him. He has a fear of ghosts and possession.
AnalysisThe plant family that has a lot of feeling of having their boundaries aggressed is the Anthemiaceae family which contains the Artemesias, Chamomilla and Cina. The Anthemiaceae family is in the Asterales group which contains Arnica montana, so is very much indicated in injuries and where the integrity of boundaries has been affected. A man with paranoid schizophrenia after a motorbike accident had been successfully treated Artemisia absinthium.
Phase 7: attacked by a gang; violent; cut himself from his family; drug abuse; fear of ghosts and possession.
Lanthanides: independent.
Asterales: trauma, injuries.
Artemisia absinthium is one of the remedies for people who feel they might be murdered at any time, they feel unsafe in their group or family. Definitely worth remembering as one of our trauma remedies for more extreme cases.
Follow upHe is much better, all the paranoia has gone, he seems more amenable and chatty and respectful. His athletes foot has calmed down. He has cut weed smoking from 4 joints a day to just half a joint! And wants to give up completely at some point
The first remedy I gave him was Cortalus cascavella which did nothing. At the follow up there was a lot of irritation, midges biting him, itchy athletes foot, things pissing him off, feeling he is blamed for things he didn't do. But says he likes helping people.
I still felt he needed an animal remedy and went for Culex pippins, the mosquito. At the follow up there was some improvement but not comprehensive: he still had paranoid feelings about police coming to his house or getting stabbed.
In the past he had been given the remedy Opium, Papver somniferum but that didn't work.
