Botany
Herb; perennial; up to 40 cm tall.
Root: taproot; woody caudex; several erect stems.
Leaves: basal rosette about the caudex; lance-shaped; coated thinly in woolly hairs; up to 9 cm long; borne on petioles; few smaller higher on the stem.
Inflorescence: loose cyme at the top of the stem.
Flowers: calyx of five sepals, outer three are heart-shaped and green to pink or purple in color, the inner two are much smaller and narrower; bell-shaped; petals white with central purple markings, 0.5 cm wide.
Fruit: capsule; up to 1 cm long; contains 4 to 8 seeds.
