Name Thysanura is derived from the Greek, thysanos for fringe, tassel, bristle and oura for tail.
Zoology: three long caudal filaments; silvery glitter of the scales covering their bodies; movement is fish-like; damp corners or amongst books and paper in houses; flattened bodies, elongated or oval; flexible antennae; small or absent compound eyes; short mandibles; unspecialised mouthparts.
Taxonomy: Machilidae and Meinertellidae of the jumping bristletails were once included with Thysanura. Occasionally, the correspondingly restricted order Thysanura is referred to as Zygentoma.
