Peronema canescens

Region: southeast Asia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia.
Habitat: lowland tropics; in secondary forest, forest clearings, river banks, along roads and railways, in open country; moist to wet sites, even flooded seasonally; elevations from sea-level up to 600, 900 metres; intolerant of very dry conditions.
Use: wood for pillars in houses, interior finishes, roof trusses, carts, bridges for light traffic, furniture, cabinets, decorative veneer, external frames; medicinal purposes; reforestation; hedges.
Botany
Evergreen or deciduous shrub or small to medium-sized tree; ovoid crown; up to 20 or 30 metres tall; pioneer.
Root: superficial, with a short taproot.
Stem: straight or slightly flexuous; with small buttresses; branchless for up to 9 to 15 metres; 70 cm in diameter; wood is strong, lightweight, non-durable.
Flowers: first flowering occurs at an age of approximately 5 years when trees are about 5 metres high
