Name: Monotropaceae, Pyrolaceae.
Botany: many non-green, mycotrophic rather than parasitic; reduced; sepals and petals reduced in size; leaves reduced to bracts; inflorescence only above ground.
Genera: Pterospora andromeda (pine drops); Sarcodes sanguinea; Monotropa uniflora (Indian pipe); Allotropa virgata; Pyrola; Chimaphila.
Taxonomy
In the Apg3 classification Monotropoideae is a Subfamily in Ericaceae. Monotropaceae and Pyrolaceae was included in Ericaceae to make Ericaceae and its subfamilies monophyletic.
In the Plant theory Monotropoideae is placed in Subphase 7 in Ericales.
Introduction
