Taxonomy
In the Apg3 system Lecythidaceae is a Family in the Order Ericales. The circumscription has varied in several systems. Sometimes genera have been excluded from Lecythidaceae to form small families like Foetidiaceae, Planchonaceae, Barringtoniaceae, Scytopetalaceae and Napoleonaeaceae.
In the Plant theory Lecythidaceae is a family in the Order Sapotales, which is placed in the Subclass Ericidae. Lecythidaceae is placed in Subphase 5.
