Vithoulkas has brought many of its important characteristics to our notice. Sankaran has conducted a proving in which the provers dreamt that they did not get enough to eat, all the food was finished before they were able to get to it. These themes will be further expanded in this chapter. It is remarkable how many themes are similar to the ones we find in Jewish history.
The name is derived from the Greek word ‘Iodes’ meaning violet. It was discovered in 1811. It is a bluish black solid substance that evaporates into a violet gas when heated. There is a high concentration of Iodum in seaweed, from which it used to be extracted in the old days.
It is a good disinfectant and gets used in many different solutions. Halogen lamps also contain Iodum. It has also been used as a pigment in writing ink.
